As Greeley Police Chief Mark Jones prepares to retire this week, the police department will see a familiar face at the helm.
Interim City Manager Raymond Lee appointed Deputy Police Chief Adam Turk to the interim role of Police Chief beginning Sept. 12.
According to a news release, Turk has more than 14 years of law enforcement experience in leadership positions with the City of Greeley.
He started as a police officer with the city in 1999, working as a detective and patrol officer. In 2013, he was promoted to lieutenant, overseeing all law enforcement and patrol operations, according to the release. In 2018, he became deputy chief.
Turk graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia, earned a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Northern Colorado.
“Based on his experience, community involvement, and administrative leadership, I am confident that in this interim phase, (Turk) will step into his leadership role and serve the community with continued integrity and stewardship,” Lee said in the release.
Turk will take on the interim role as the city conducts a national search for the next police chief.
The Greeley Police Department’s goals remain the same, Turk said in the release:
Improve traffic safety
Pursue violent offenders
Continue working with human services organizations to address the impacts of homelessness and mental health
Recruit and retain the very best
Provide excellent police service
“I am excited to lead the department as interim chief, working alongside 219 professionals who work tirelessly serving the citizens of Greeley,” Turk said in the release . “The police department will continue to serve with integrity, accountability, and transparency. We will continue efforts to build on relationships in the community and commit to a community culture of understanding and compassion. This will involve a lot of listening.”
