Glass half full: Calling all artists, the City of Greeley wants to pay you $450 to make utility cabinets beautiful

By Kelly Ragan

Calling all artists – the City of Greeley wants to pay you $450 to design a vinyl wrap for utility cabinets around the city.

The Greeley Art Commission is requesting proposals in an open competition for artists to create mural designs for the cabinets. The competition is open to individuals, nonprofits, partnering agencies and groups of artists, according to the city.

If selected, the city will shell out $450 for the design itself, the time required to make any necessary changes, and the submission of a high-resolution digital image of the design.

Designs can be either representational or abstract, according to the city, but must respond to the urban context and be appropriate for the location and setting. Diverse mural themes and content is encouraged – however it must be appropriate for a broad audience of all ages.

The submission deadline is March 31.

What artists will need to submit:

  • Artist statement (resume can be included)

  • A Letter of Intent to include a written description of the submitted design

  • A full color sketch of the proposed design

  • Up to six digital images of work completed in the past

  • Inventory sheet with descriptions of past work images including title, medium, dimensions and date produced
