At a city council meeting this month, two Weld County youths and one group were recognized by Greeley Youth Commission member Madison Zeller for their dedication to serving their community.
Briana Huerta, a student at Greeley Central High School, Griffin Boyd, a student at Severance High School, and the Boys & Girls Club – Keystone Club were recognized celebrated for outstanding community service.
Huerta, who was nominated by a community member, is an avid volunteer, according to a news release, and has logged more than 100 hours a semester of volunteer work with a variety of organizations, including UCHealth, Bella Romero, Jackson Elementary and Greeley Central High School, all while being a full-time high school student and taking classes at Aims Community College (not to mention that slick 4.0 GPA).
Boyd, also nominated by a community member, is a regular volunteer at monthly F.I.S.H. (Families Investigating Science at Home) events at the Poudre Learning Center. He’s helped with guiding family walking tours, leading astronomy groups and hayride tours, teaching folks about snakes and reptiles and more.
The Boys & Girls Club – Keystone Club is a combined group of high school students from Union Colony Preparatory School, Greeley Central, Greeley West and Northridge high schools. Students completed at least 600 community service hours, volunteering with organizations such as Grace Pointe Senior Living, the Humane Society, the Greeley Stampede and more.
