Indie Arts Kids Market returns for second year in Greeley

By Kelly Ragan

The Indie Arts Kids Market is back for its second year showcasing creations made by Greeley’s young artists.

Betony Coons, event organizer, said about 60-70 kids running more than 40 booths to sell their handmade wares from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 2101 16th St.

Originally a small subsection of Greeley’s winter Indie Arts Market, the kids market grew into its own event.

The market is intended to be part fun, part learning experience, Coons said, as she hopes to support the young artists of tomorrow who will be painting murals and opening shops in the future.

Creating art, whatever form it takes, is no easy task. Neither is figuring out how to make sales or make change – or learn how to recover when you don’t make sales at all. The market offers a supportive environment for young artists to stretch and grow, and it offers something beautiful to the community, too.

“I find the kids market really inspiring,” Coons said. “I’m always floored by their ideas. People often don’t give kids enough credit for what they can come up with. It feels very fresh – their art inspires me in ways I don’t expect.”
