The NOCO Mask Making Team announced Tuesday via Facebook it made more than 8,000 hand-sewn face masks for hospitals, nursing homes, fire departments, police departments and more.

The NOCO Mask Making Team banded together back in March.

Spearheaded by Kim and Aaron Adamson, of Greeley, the two wanted to sew face masks to help with Colorado’s equipment shortage.

When Aaron had the idea Friday, March 20, about a dozen people were interested in helping out. As of March 25, the Facebook group had 112 members. Now it has more than 300.

“This started small, but it’s growing,” Kim told the NoCo Optimist in an interview in March. “People want to do something.”

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Aaron announced the group would transition into standby mode for the next few months. The group fulfilled all the requests it received and met the need in the community, he said.

Some folks will continue to make and send masks to communities in need beyond northern Colorado.

“While we could declare ‘mission accomplished’ and disband the group, it’s still possible there will be another surge of cases in the fall,” Aaron wrote. “We want to be ready to jump into action again if that’s the case.”
