When Nat and Susan Wickham planned a three-week trip to Italy, those plans included taking the round-trip shuttle service from Greeley to Denver International Airport. But through a Google search, they learned that service was no longer in business.

The alternative—paying for parking at DIA, which can run into hundreds of dollars for extended parking stays—wasn’t ideal. Besides, navigating highways to get home while jet-lagged can be dangerous for even the most experienced drivers.

The Wickhams discovered there was a shuttle serving Loveland but getting there required an extra out-of-the-way travel leg.

“Fortunately, a good friend agreed to shuttle us to and from the airport,” they wrote in an email.

Thanks to Colorado’s unpredictable spring weather, the Wickhams’ return flight from London to DIA was canceled when a snowstorm dumped copious amounts of heavy, wet snow on the Denver Metro area and Front Range from March 13-15. They were able to find seats on another airline but the arrival time was close to 11 p.m., more than six hours later than their original flight.

“We did not want to impose on our friend to drive to and from DIA in bad weather, late at night,” the Wickhams wrote. “Luckily, we stumbled on a new Greeley shuttle service—The Landline Company—and were very impressed. It’s the best shuttle service we’ve ever used, anywhere.”

Getting to and from the airport is a breeze

Landline’s airport shuttle began service between DIA and Fort Collins/Loveland last year. Its Greeley shuttle service started March 4, with 11 departure and arrival times beginning at 5:30 a.m. for a Greeley departure. The latest DIA shuttle leaves the airport at 9:45 p.m. and arrives in Greeley one hour later. Greeley pick up is at the TTEC parking lot near Hampton Inn & Suites on 29th Street near Hwy 34. Parking is free and monitored by security cameras. Passengers register their vehicle license plate when making a reservation to shuttle with Landline or upon arrival at the lot. Drop off/pick up at DIA is at Terminal West, Level 5 outside door 504.

“In Denver, passengers are picked up and dropped off curbside. There is no need to cross traffic to board or deboard at an island like other shuttle services,” Landline marketing specialist Hannah Tamura wrote in an email.

Booking a ride is a breeze, Nat Wickham said.

“Their service and fares ($7 one way from DIA) shown on their website seemed too good to be true so I called the number to get more information. My call was answered by a real person and I learned that the $7 was an introductory fare for the month of March,” he wrote.

He was able to quickly book two seats on Landline’s website.

Tamura says the company plans to offer sales in the future, but standard pricing—$29 for the first adult, additional adults ride for $15 and kids 12 and under are free—makes it more affordable for couples and families traveling together.

“Our standard pricing is still more affordable than passengers using other services or even driving themselves,” she wrote.

There are no baggage fees. Passengers may bring one checked bag, one carry-on and a personal item. Dimensions for checked items can’t be longer than 90 inches in length, width and height and weigh less than 50 pounds. Luggage exceeding the weight and size restrictions is subject to space availability, but Tamura says Landline has never turned away a passenger because of luggage.

Landline’s partnership with United Airlines allows it to offer baggage check-in for United flights for passengers departing from the Northern Colorado regional airport in Loveland. The process is similar to a connecting flight where passengers check their luggage to their final destination at DIA, Tamura wrote.

“Since our Greeley location is not located inside a terminal and we do not have airport staff there, we will not be providing United service out of Greeley,” she wrote.

Enjoy first class comfort

The Greeley shuttle accommodates up to 14 passengers in a vehicle called a Grech. It’s outfitted with premium reclining leather seats, ample leg room, power outlets, metal tray tables and cup holders at each seat. Free Wi-Fi lets passengers stream shows and movies or get work done while riding. Even Fido or Fluffy can travel with you in the shuttle, as long as your pet fits in a small, ventilated carrier. Service or support animals may sit on a passenger’s lap or on the floor at the passenger’s seat. Check in is easy. Simply show the driver your ID.

“Our driver, Leslie, was friendly, enthusiastic and informative,” the Wickhams wrote. “Along with an introduction pointing out the vehicle’s features, she told us the commute time and route. The seats are very comfortable, have shoulder/lap seatbelts and the space is like business class on a plane.”

For the Wickhams, Landline turned what might have been a harrowing end to their vacation into a carefree hour to reflect on their travels during the ride home.
