A look at how the Biden administration could impact Colorado

By Kelly Ragan

Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris officially took office Wednesday.

With Democrats now in control of the House and Senate as well, the country can expect some significant policy shakeups.

How might that impact Colorado? Our friends at the Colorado Sun dug into the top seven ways we can expect the Biden administration to impact our state.

They include:

  1. Coronavirus pandemic response

That could mean additional stimulus checks, more robust rental assistance, additional small business loans and more.

2. Key cabinet appointments

Those appointments will impact the fancy new Bureau of Land Management headquarters in Grand Junction

3. Colorado Democrats taking center stage

Folks like Sen. Michael Bennet have been pushing policy on health care, gun control, and more for years. We can expect to see more of that.

4. Changes to environmental policy

Remember all those record-breaking wildfires last year? Climate change will be a central issue.

5. Changes to policy regarding public lands

Democrats wanted to pass big public land bills during the Trump administration, but those efforts failed. We’ll likely see conversations around protecting public come back to life.

6. A potential relocation of Space Command

Space Command was initially set to be located in Colorado, but former President Donald Trump announced it would move to Alabama. That could change again if Sen. Bennet and Hickenlooper get their way.

7. Changes to immigration rules

We could see some major changes to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
