For the first time, the City of Greeley will close its public facing offices for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will look different this year. For starters, the usual march is going virtual. And for the first time, the City of Greeley will close its public facing offices to honor the holiday.
City manager Roy Otto is behind the decision, said city spokesperson Kelli Johnson in an interview.
“The addition of this holiday to the city’s calendar is important in furthering the city’s commitment to embracing diversity and creating moments that invite inclusion,” Greeley city manager Roy Otto said in a news release. “The city has always co-sponsored the annual MLK Day celebration in Greeley, and officially adding Martin Luther King Jr. as a holiday is a natural extension of our continued support of diversity, equity and inclusion.”
The move comes after a summer of protests and vigils in Greeley calling for an end to police brutality and systemic racism.
“they city recognizes many holidays during the year, but this seemed like a valuable and important step in the city’s commitment to embracing diversity and inviting inclusion,” Johnson said.
