Greeley Police Chief Mark Jones announced he plans to retire next month, after working for the department for nearly 35 years – about three of those spent serving as chief.

Jones’ last day with the department will be Sept. 11, according to a news release.

The City of Greeley interim City Manager, Raymond Lee, will appoint an interim chief of police to take over the job until the hiring process is wrapped up. According to the release, an interim chief of police has yet to be selected.

Wondering why there were so many interims in the last paragraph?

Jones’ announcement comes on the heels of City Manager Roy Otto announcing his resignation. Community Development Director Brad Mueller also resigned recently

In a column submitted to the Greeley Tribune, Jones explained he intended to serve as police chief for at least five years, but professional and personal events, including anti-police sentiment and COVID contributed to his decision to retire.
